Overview
The Rural Travel Fund (RTF) was established in 2003 by Sport New Zealand to encourage participation in sport by people living in rural communities. The fund enables sports clubs and schools to offset some of the costs associated with travelling long distances to attend regular sporting competitions.
Applications for the RTF are open to rural sports clubs and rural school teams with young people aged between five and 19 years who require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions. The fund is not provided for the purpose of travel to regional or national competitions or events.
An assessment committee established for the purpose, is responsible for the allocation of funds.
Funding rounds
Approximately $9,500 is available annually for allocation in two rounds, in February (winter sports) and October (summer sports).
The Application Guidelines provide information on eligibility.
