Road Maintenance and heavy vehicle movements Matau area

Stratford District Council's roading contractor, Fulton Hogan, and its subcontractor Uhlenberg Haulage are carrying out maintenance works in the Matau area through to the end of November 2026.

Works are taking place on the following roads:

• Junction Road, with drainage maintenance and renewals, underslip repairs and maintenance metalling
• Matau North Road, with maintenance metalling and grading
• Mangaoapa Road, with drainage and maintenance metalling
• Matau Road, which will see increased heavy vehicle traffic as trucks travel to and from the work sites

Motorists can expect several trucks making multiple return trips each day, generally between 7am and 6pm. As many roads in this area are narrow, we ask drivers to take extra care, slow down, watch for trucks on blind corners and allow extra time when travelling through the area.
