Who should be able to postpone their rates, or pay less in rates?
We’ve been reviewing our Rates Postponement Policy and Rates Remission Policy and we’re now seeking your feedback on our updated drafts.
The Draft Rates Postponement Policy outlines the reasons that ratepayers can apply to have rate payments postponed. In our draft, ratepayers whose properties are affected by natural disaster are the sole group able to apply.
The Draft Rates Remission Policy acts as a form of financial assistance and support; reducing the amount paid in rates by particular ratepayers. Our changes include removing Covid-19 lock-down and isolation as a reason for considering a remission on rates penalties, and increasing the capital value of low value properties that receive remission of the Uniform Annual General Charge from $10,000 to $15,000 because of the 2023 rating valuations.
Read the draft policies now and make an online submission at Stratford.govt.nz/HaveYourSayy
Copies of the draft policies are also available by request at the Stratford Library and Visitor Information, or council’s Service Centre on Miranda Street.
Submissions close at 4pm Sunday 12 May.
