Taranaki Pioneer Village

Taranaki Pioneer Village opened in 1976 and offers a unique opportunity to experience an outdoor museum representing the life of Taranaki pioneers from 1850-1950. The historic buildings are set in park-like surroundings over tgen acres and include picnic areas.
Many interesting discoveries await visitors within 40 buildings, the oldest dating back to 1853.
The village has its own railway line encircling the property and gives a good overview of the complex.
Shakee Pear Cafe includes a function room with a courtyard and a children's play area.
The visitor reception centre has local and tour information, and exclusive souvenir items.
This popular outdoor museum is on the main highway just south of Stratford.
Other features of the Village include: Stratford Hospital Museum, thought to be one of only tow full hospital displays in NZ; kauri bath tub believed to be the only one in NZ; historic Mangatoki Church, Stratford Courthouse, Opunake Station, agricultural barn and the village green available for weddings; and 1850-1900 style educaton programme.
