Level 2 water restrictions are in place until further notice
Those using the Stratford, Midhirst, and Toko water supplies have been under level 1 water restrictions since Monday 13 January. Unfortunately, with Pātea River levels dropping further, Stratford District Council has now moved to level 2 water restrictions until further notice.
New rules apply to residential users of the Stratford, Midhirst, and Toko water supplies. Until further notice:
- The total ban on the use of sprinklers, irrigation systems, and unattended hoses will continue.
- There's now also a total ban on the use of handheld hoses and water blasters.
Why do water restrictions happen?
Water restrictions occur when Pātea River levels drop below a certain point, and that’s influenced by natural environmental factors, like the weather. Under our resource consent, when river levels drop below a certain point, we need to reduce the amount we take for the town supply to protect the health of our river.
