It’s Children’s Day on Sunday 1 March, and Stratford District Youth Council is encouraging kids aged 15 and under to dive into the celebrations, with 100 free swim and ice cream combos available on the day at Wai o Rua - Stratford Aquatic Centre, from 1pm to 4pm.
“It’s the perfect way to celebrate Children’s Day - having 100 kids splashing around and eating a lot of sugar at Wai o Rua, although naturally not at the same time,” laughs Youth Councillor Romero Cranstoun.
“Just make sure you arrive early in the session, so you don’t miss out on one of the 100 free passes and ice-creams.”
Wai o Rua’s usual pool supervision rules will still apply during the free swim session. These are available to view at WaiORua.govt.nz
Romero says, “The free passes might be for kids 15 and under, but whānau are welcome, too! We’d love to see adults jumping in and having a splash with their kids.”
“Just so you know, the pool will continue to be open to the community during the Children’s Day session, so if you’re after a quiet Sunday swim you might want to reschedule - or you could just come and enjoy the fun!”
Children’s Day (Te Rā o Ngā Tamariki) occurs annually on 1 March, and is dedicated to honouring the joy, curiosity, and potential of tamariki in Aotearoa.
