Youth Councils in New Zealand provide young people with a voice, and give them an opportunity to represent the views of their peers in the community.
The Stratford District Youth Council is designed to serve youth of the district through strong and positive leadership, providing recreational, social and educational facilities and services.
The Youth Council comprises up to 15 young people aged between 12 and 24 years of age who live, work, or go to school in Stratford.
We aim to represent a wide range of ethnicities, occupations, ages and backgrounds.
What does the Youth Council do?
The Stratford District Youth Council works to make Stratford a more positive environment for youth. They do this by speaking on behalf of youth, creating and participating in local events, and working towards solving youth issues.
When does the Youth Council meet?
The Stratford District Youth Council meets twice-monthly, on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. At meetings Youth Councillors discuss ideas, projects and submissions relating to youth.

The Stratford District Youth Council, along with the Taranaki Pioneer Village, are dying to bring you an eerie night of the grim and haunted on Saturday 27th October..
Auditions are taking place next Monday 3rd September from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at the War Memorial Centre, and Stratford District Youth Councillors are looking for volunteers to be performers, production designers and support crew to help bring the night alive.
In addition to performers and support crew, Stratford District Youth Council are looking for donations of costumes or materials for costumes to help bring the performance to life.
Have your say
We will do our best to voice your views and ideas at upcoming meetings and include it in our consultation process.
