Bacteria Levels in water
The summer months and swimming season are nearly here. During the summer season Stratford residents enjoy popular recreational swimming locations along the Patea River that travels through King Edward Park and Windsor Park. The Taranaki Regional Council monitor water quality and bacteria levels at popular swimming site locations annually throughout the Taranaki Region and notify council if levels of bacteria are high and rivers become unsafe for animals, swimming, and fishing. Bacteria levels can also become harmful during periods of rain. Warning signage will be displayed at popular swimming sites if Council has been notified that harmful bacteria is evident. If you are unsure you can also check our website, www.stratford.govt.nz or the Bathing Water Quality page on Taranaki Regional Council’s website https://trc.govt.nz.
