Water Supply Safety – Alert Level 3
As schools and businesses prepare for reopening post Alert Level 4, it is important to ensure the safety of your building water systems before occupancy resumes.
Council recommends building managers, maintenance staff or plumbing professionals thoroughly flush the water supply before building use resumes.
Flush water through all points of use within the building before reopening (e.g. showers, sinks, toilets).
Flushing procedures will vary depending on the building and may need to occur in sections (e.g. floors or individual rooms) due to facility size and water pressure. The purpose of building flushing is to replace all water inside building piping with fresh water.
Please note: Council asks that all water systems are flushed outside of peak demand periods. This means please don’t flush between the hours of 6-9am and 4-7pm.
