Youth Councils in New Zealand provide young people with a voice, and give them the opportunity to represent the views of their peers in the community. If you really want your voice to count, then this is your opportunity to join the Stratford District Youth Council.

Community Development Advisor, Leanne Richards, says that the Stratford District Youth Council provides a positive environment for youth, and is designed to serve the youth of the district through strong and positive leadership.

“The Youth Councillors are involved in a wide range of activities including everything from organising events of their choosing, addressing issues that impact on youth and providing recommendations to the Stratford District Council on a variety of proposals and projects.”
Youth Councillors are aged between 12 and 24 years and must live, work or go to school in the Stratford District. They meet on Tuesdays twice a month in one formal and one informal meeting.
“Being a Youth Councillor is a commitment and helps develop leadership skills, but it is also a lot of fun,”says Leanne.
