It's getting warmer, and that means more swimming to keep us cool.
Stratford District Council would like to remind all pool owners and occupiers that you have a responsibility to ensure your swimming pool fences meet the Building Code on restricting access to residential pools.
Private swimming pools are the single most significant water hazard for pre-school children. A boundary fence is not a satisfactory safety measure, the immediate pool area also needs to be fenced.
It's becoming increasingly popular and easy to purchase portable pools, like blow up pools. Even though these pools don't need to be "constructed" and are simple to use, the Building Code can still apply.
Owners of these pools must follow the safety instructions given on the pool packaging, including the need for fencing, and must ensure that pools are fenced as required by the Building Code.
f you're not sure if your pool needs a fence, give Council a call on 06 765 6099.
Inspections of swimming and spa pools within the Stratford district will be carried out in the New Year.
For further information about swimming pool inspections visit stratford.govt.nz or call Brendon King, Building Control Officer on 06 765 6099.
