Stratford's Scarecrow Trail starts today!

Stratford district’s famous Scarecrow Trail kicks off today and finishes Friday 13 November 2020. 

You’re invited to hit the trail with friends and family to see how many scarecrows you can find. It’s a fun, free activity for everyone to do, with prizes up for grabs for those who play.

Water shutdown - Miranda Street, 20 October 2020

Due to a water main break on Miranda Street between Celia Street and Romeo Street, we've had to shut down water supply to residents in this area. 
 
Contractors are on site to repair and water is expected to be back on around 2am, Wednesday 21 October.

Free WiFi coming to downtown Stratford

Stratford District Council is pleased to announce a partnership with local internet provider Primo, offering access to free WiFi along Broadway, Stratford.

Through this partnership, WiFi will be provided free of charge to users between the northern and southern roundabouts along Broadway from 7:00am to 7:00pm daily.

A new piece of artwork on Fenton Street in Stratford pays homage to the rare white Pīwakawaka which has graced the parks and gardens of Stratford in 2020.

Whangamomona to benefit from tourism fund

Council has been successful in receiving funding from the Tourism Facilities Development Grant (TFDG) to make improvements to Whangamomona's camping facilities in the lead up to summer.

A fault in the water trunk main means an urgent water shutdown will take place tonight, Sunday 18 October at 9.00pm for repairs to be made.

A Trade Graduation Ceremony is being held in Stratford on Thursday 5 November to celebrate local people completing their chosen training.

The ceremony is part of the Mayors Task Force for Jobs initiative and is a chance to recognise members within the community who have recently finished their trade certificates.

Update 5pm: This has now been fixed and the lines flushed. Tap water may still appear cloudy for a short period, to help this you can run your outside tap to clear the water service line to your property.

Help influence the future of our district

Every three years Council produces a Long Term Plan (LTP). This plan looks closely at the first three years and then takes a more general view of the outlying seven years.

The most recent LTP was produced in 2018 and looks to 2028. Council will repeat this process in 2021 and that LTP will look out ten years to 2031.

Stratford district community halls get funding boost

The Government has announced that Stratford District Council is receiving a Provincial Growth Fund (PGF) investment of $339,190 towards the renovation and refurbishment of eight community halls. 

Stratford District Mayor Neil Volzke says the district’s halls and facilities are hugely important to our community. “This funding boost provides a considerable cost saving to the community in the upkeep of much treasured community assets, and puts local people in work,” he says.

Celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Maori in Whakaahurangi

To kick off Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week), Stratford District Council has participated in the nationwide Māori Language Moment at 12noon today by launching a te reo Māori recording of Romeo and Juliet’s glockenspiel scene.

The launch was supported by representatives from local schools, marae, and community members.

A water pipe on Pembroke Road East has burst. Water has been shutdown to properties in the area between Cordelia Street and Swansea Road.

Contractors are on-site making the needed repairs and we expect water to be restored to properties by 12noon today.
