The District Plan

WHAT IS THE DISTRICT PLAN?

A District Plan is a statutory planning document of New Zealand's territorial authorities.

Mainly covering land use/zoning questions, District Plans are required under the Resource Management Act 1991.

The District Plan includes a range of policies and various methods to carry out required functions and responsibilities.

The District Plan is a legal document, with the power of law or regulation, and is binding on all persons, businesses, government bodies, organisations and groups in the District.

The district plan can be viewed on the Taranaki Regional Xplorer. To see the district plan, choose "District Plan" from the "select map type" at the top of the page. From there you can zoom and use the pan tools to find the area and property you want.

DISTRICT PLAN 2009 - VARIATION 1: BIODIVERSITY

As an outcome of the District Plan Review completed in 2009, Council agreed to undertake a review of the provisions relating to biodiversity as a variation to the Plan (particularly the provisions relating to indigenous vegetation and forestry activities). Council prepared a discussion document and undertook consultation with a range of stakeholders in early 2010.

In July 2010 Council notified proposals for variation 1: biodiversity, along with a section 32 report. A copy of the proposals and the section 32 report are available here.

Submissions closed on 16 October 2010. 17 submissions were received. A summary of submissions is available here.
