Stratford is located at the junction of State Highway 3 and State Highway 43, in central Taranaki, in the North Island of New Zealand.
Stratford is the closest main centre to Egmont National Park, and is the main gateway to East Egmont (ski field), Dawson Falls, and the Forgotten World Highway (SH43).
Stratford is known for its many attractions, including attractive parks and gardens, dotted around the town which features New Zealand's only glockenspiel tower. The glockenspiel plays a scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet four times daily (10am, 1pm, 3pm and 7pm).
Stratford also has a number of walks and outdoor activities. Walks vary from short walks to four day treks. You can also go bike riding or on a 4WD journey through native bush, and then relax with a round of golf.
